Meet Ben Sansen. Ben is a life & business coach, keynote speaker and host of the podcast host Choose Life. In his podcast he talks to people who inspire him about entrepreneurship, happiness, success, purpose, health, mindset, energy and spirituality. Ben‘s life was on track in the way he thought it should be, until early midlife questions arose at the age of 35. He had a successful business, excellent sales figures, great colleagues and happy customers. But something didn’t feel right. He knew there was another purpose to life.

Ben sold the share in the company that he had co-founded and traded it in for his life mission: 'Inspiring and facilitating others to realize a meaningful life'. And that’s what he does now, with great enthusiasm. In fact, so much enthusiasm that it sometimes pushes him to the limit. How does Ben make sure she sufficiently relaxes in his life? Here he shares his insights and tips.

I get out of bed at 6am every morning for a series of breathing exercises, yoga, meditation, swimming or the sauna.

How do you notice you’re in need of relaxation?

“My body is a good barometer for how tense or relaxed I am. When I start feeling pain in my neck and shoulders, when my night's rest is going down, when my mind is less clear, then I know I should slow things down.

This usually presents itself when I work too many hours, due to my enthusiasm and passion for my profession. It keeps being a matter of: practice what you preach.”

How do you find peace and relaxation in yourself?

“I am a big fan of my own Miracle Morning routine. I get out of bed before 6 am every day for some rounds of breathing, yoga, meditation, swimming, or sauna (well, not that whole series every morning).

Moreover, I'm no longer in the car to go to the office before 8:30 am. Besides this, I take a lot of extended breaks by going for 6-day hikes with my clients in the Lapland mountains. I feel very fortunate to be able to do that almost all summer.”

I teach almost all clients breathing techniques to relax. They all seem to urgently need it.

What role does breathing play in your life?

“By doing breathing exercises I get much more inner peace and mental clarity. I practice mindful breathing every morning and every night in bed. That's about an hour a day.

Nowadays there is little (or almost nothing?) that I can worry about or that keeps me awake. That used to be completely different. It’s therefore no coincidence that people I coach often give me feedback after a session: 'I don't know exactly how you do it, but with you I immediately relax'.

I teach breathing techniques to relax to almost all clients, mainly entrepreneurs, CEOs and managers. It’s only the exceptions who do not need it urgently.”

Final question, what is your motto in life?

“Firstly: this life has a deadline. You better make the best of it. Then also: no business growth without personal growth. And finally: everything always works out. And for every problem there are at least three solutions.”
