In our busy and often hectic world, consciously seeking ways to relax is essential to stay well-balanced. The question is: how do you do that? Michael Broes, moonbird’s co-founder, shares his tips and insights.

By taking control over my breathing, I become very calm and fall asleep right away.

What drives you in your work for moonbird?

“I am the co-founder of moonbird, and responsible for everything that has to do with finance and technology. I am also involved in defining moonbird’s strategy together with Stefanie, the other co-founder, who is also my sister.

I wake up every morning with the realization that I work on a project that improves the quality of life of many people. Even more fun is that I get to do this with friends and family. It doesn't feel like a job, more like a unique project that I am a part of. Through my work, I can deepen and broaden my interests, and see the impact of my work on a daily basis.”

How do you notice that you need relaxation, and what is then your strategy?

“I notice immediately that I need more breathing space when my focus diminishes and my sleep quality deteriorates. Signs that tell me I need to slow down. I then play sports, cook, travel, or go out with friends.

I also like to chase the sun. Whenever possible, I try to take a day off when the sun is shining and the weather is nice. That always pleases me.”

What does self-care mean to you?

“Adequate sleep! That's most important to me. And now and then a nice warm bath :).”

How did you first become acquainted with the power of breathing?

“I discovered the power of breathing exercises long ago when I spent a lot of time worrying in bed, with anxious thoughts. In these moments, I consciously shifted the focus to my breathing, because it was the only thing I could actively control. By shifting my attention and consciously taking control over my breathing, I became very calm and fell asleep immediately.

In the meantime, moonbird is here to guide me falling asleep. The physical, tactile feeling provides an immersive experience!”

“Be happy for this moment. This moment is your life.”
