In our busy and often hectic world, consciously seeking relaxation is essential for staying healthy and in balance. The question is: how do you do that? Yoga, Pilates and SOMA Breath teacher Axinja Granier shares her tips and insights.
You don't need anything fancy to start transforming, just your own body.
“SOMA Breath is a holistic system of pranayama (breathing) techniques. It can be done by anyone - no experience is necessary - and for many, it is an easy entrance to the world of meditation.
SOMA breathing is done with rhythmic music and guided body/mind connection meditation. This combination helps you to transform your life and reach your full potential.”
“I’m passionate about helping people discover their own power to change and transform their lives. Next to SOMA Breath, I also teach yoga and pilates. I love teaching all three because each of these modalities has helped me a lot in my life - with my knee problems, stiffness in the body, tiredness, and more.
What I find great is that you don't need anything fancy, just your own body, to start transforming. And this motivates me with my job, sharing this with others!”
“I see my breathing as a way to supercharge my mind, body, and spirit. When I start doing things too quickly, feel restless, or have trouble sleeping, I notice my breath becomes erratic… then I know it is time to slow down and focus on my breathing. I love to do rhythmic breathing exercises, as I can notice the effects immediately. It’s very simple yet very helpful.
Thanks to daily breathing exercises I have more energy, more stamina in physical exercises, and a better response to stress. Moreover, I am able to fall back asleep more easily if I have a restless sleep.”
“My ritual upon waking is to do a SOMA Breath practice, for 10 to 20 minutes. Sometimes I switch that out and do a different meditation. When I have more time, I will do a longer SOMA Breath session during the day.”
“My advice would be to make breathwork a regular practice. Doing an intense or long breathwork session once a month is less effective than doing a mini session daily or several times a week. Everyone can find 5 minutes at some point during the day. And the benefits are huge, so it is worth it to make the time.
Personally, I find the morning is the best time, because it charges my day with something positive, energizing, and at the same time calming. Listen to your body and don’t worry if - in case you’re doing SOMA breathing - the breath holds are challenging. It’s most important that you can follow the rhythmic breathing. The breath holds, as well as rhythmic breathing, will get easier with practice.”
“‘You must be the change you wish to see in the world’, a quote by Gandhi. We often look for change to come from outside ourselves and try to change or control other people and events. Think of pills and other pharmaceuticals, hoping another person will make us happy, letting the news influence what mood we are in, trying to change or influence others, etc.
If everyone would start just by working on themselves, making themselves happier, healthier, and calmer, then this internal change will influence the people and environment around us, creating a positive ripple effect and thus changing the world.”
