If everything else fails, moonbird helps - Ruben Peeters
In our busy and often hectic world, consciously seeking ways to relax is essential to stay well-balanced. The question is: how do you do that? We speak with Ruben Peeters, office manager, person in charge of customer support and HR at moonbird.
What drives you in your work?
Ruben: "I really enjoy working with people. However, in sales I sometimes couldn’t get my bearings because I put on a mask and felt that I was less 'real'. Office, HR and customer support are the opposite of this. I can be 100% myself while taking care of the team and the people who knock on moonbird's door with questions. This gives me pride, confidence and joy. My passion has always been the hospitality industry, as in providing a fun experience for customers at the cafe/restaurant. At moonbird, the challenge is to create a fun work experience for your own team. Double win!" How do you notice you’re in need of relaxation?
"When my eyelid starts to 'twitch' during the day I know I'm tired, often without really realizing it. A good sleep rhythm is vital here and after 29 years I am getting the hang of it. In my head, I immediately notice that I am in need of relaxation when it is not ‘quiet’ in the evening. If my inner conversation is still running overtime, I know I have to find a way to relax, otherwise a good night’s sleep is not on the table." What do you do when you notice this? "When I am physically tired I try to stay far away from alcohol. I notice the effects immediately, although it is often a process of several days. I usually try not to drink during the week but in the summer this is a lot harder. To calm my mind I read and stay away from social media. Even though I try to stay away from social media as much as possible, given the way social circles are built today it is almost impossible. Reading (especially fiction) allows me to put all my thoughts into fantasy and get away from life, current events and social media for a while." Do you have a set self-care ritual? Implementing certain routines in his life gives structure and decreases stress for Ruben. "Every morning I make my bed, even if I have to walk back upstairs from the street to do so. It's the first task of the day and I come home to a cozy made bed every night. In the evening I already lay out my clothes for the next day. My backpack, keys and wallet are also already in place so my morning never starts with stress." How has doing breathing exercises helped you?? "Especially during sports (circuit training) I noticed the power of correct breathing very quickly. My exercises were much easier. I could go further, harder and deeper. This led me to also start to deal with acute stress this way. Where I used to reach for a cigarette out of an old habit, I now take the time to breathe in and out deeply and give my body a chance to unwind." What’s your favorite moment to use moonbird? As a member of the team, we’re always curious to know how and when they use moonbird. Ruben: "I always use my moonbird before going to bed. If everything else fails, moonbird never does. Several minutes of breathing in and out with moonbird as a handheld coach is a trip to dreamland, without exception." What do you like about breathing with moonbird? "It's so nice how natural the handheld device feels and how simple it is to draw power from your own breathing." What is your motto in life? "(Almost) everyone is a good person"
